Fairfax County Begins Vaccinating Teachers

In accordance with state and local Health department groupings, teachers and school staff in Phase 1b began receiving vaccinations on Monday, Jan. 11. As essential front-line workers, along with police, fire and hazmat, corrections, and homeless shelter workers, teachers are among the first in Fairfax County to receive the vaccination in an effort to move toward reopening physical school attendance to all. Fairfax Peak To Be Built In Fairfax County

Fairfax Peak is being planned to be built on the mountain of trash at the Lorton Landfill, right off I-95 in the southern part of Fairfax County. The ski facility plans may include multiple slopes for skiing and snowboarding with a variety of ramps, jumps, rails, boxes, and other features, capable of use in national snowboarding and freestyle skiing competitions. Alexandria Film Festival To Run From November 12 To 15

The Alexandria Film Festival will run from Nov. 12-15 at 500 Alexandria Avenueis. This year the festival is in its 13th year as it continues to showcase up and coming faces in the film industry on a local scale. The website  of the festival states, “The Alexandria Film Festival brings high-quality short and feature length films, documentaries, filmmaker panels, and arts presentations to the historic port city of Alexandria, Virginia”. Academic Achievements Of Team Members Celebrated By Inova Mount Vernon Hospital

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital celebrated the academic achievements of team members on Monday, Aug. 3, who were unable to ‘walk’ this year due to COVID-19. Twenty-six graduates earning various degrees from Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s were honored. Hospital staff members watched the event via zoom and cheered on their colleagues as each graduate’s name was individually recognized. Old Mount Vernon High School To Get Renovated

Mount Vernon High School has moved closer to Phase 1 of renovating and reusing the existing structure recently. Supervisor Dan Storck (D-Mount Vernon) organized a virtual meeting with the community and designers to discuss the plan and listen to ideas. Storck said, “It’s just an amazing building we have on the Richmond Highway corridor.
