In a lesser-known area of the southern Springfield-Beulah Road area, Fairfax County is building a multi-use path from Cinder Bed Road along Long Branch creek to the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station, enhancing a commuting option for many in this part of the county. The proposed trail called the “Cinder Bed Bikeway” will be a two-mile connection with two bridges over the creek, lighting, and neighborhood connections that are part of the county bicycle path network. A new part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival this year was the "Petal Porch Parade" where participating neighborhoods decorated their porches with cherry blossoms to celebrate the season. In accordance with state and local Health department groupings, teachers and school staff in Phase 1b began receiving vaccinations on Monday, Jan. 11. As essential front-line workers, along with police, fire and hazmat, corrections, and homeless shelter workers, teachers are among the first in Fairfax County to receive the vaccination in an effort to move toward reopening physical school attendance to all. Inova Mount Vernon Hospital celebrated the academic achievements of team members on Monday, Aug. 3, who were unable to ‘walk’ this year due to COVID-19. Twenty-six graduates earning various degrees from Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s were honored. Hospital staff members watched the event via zoom and cheered on their colleagues as each graduate’s name was individually recognized.
