Oakwood
Mount Vernon unofficially spans from Belle View Boulevard at the northern tip of the Fort Hunt area all the way down to Fort Belvoir. Oakwood is that part of Mount Vernon which is closest to museum and grounds of the Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. Most local people refer to Oakwood as Mount Vernon, with the understanding that they are not talking about the larger surrounding area of Mount Vernon.
Homes in this neighborhood are larger with nice large lots, often wooded in close proximity to waterfront because Oakwood / Mount Vernon is bounded by water on three sides. Dogue Creek is to the south between Yacht Haven and Fort Belvoir, while Little Hunting Creek is between Woodland Park and homes in Stratford Landing and Fort Hunt.
