Fort Hunt

Fort Hunt is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County. Fort Hunt was the site of a military base named (of course) Fort Hunt. Nearby CDPs include Mount Vernon, Virginia (southwest), Belle Haven, Virginia (north) and Hybla Valley, Virginia (west). The population was 12,923 at the 2000 census. It encompasses the 22308 ZIP code and most of the 22307 ZIP code of Alexandria. This means that Fort Hunt is composed of much of the most affluent section of southeast Fairfax County.

Fort Hunt Road runs nearly parallel to the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Potomac River. Like much in the Mount Vernon District, Fort Hunt in many ways a remnant of a time past when Virginia was a bit more “southern”. Streets lined with mature hardwoods lead to quiet homes and tranquil neighborhoods. The nearby Potomac River is a perfect neighbor and many parks are in the area.

At the same time, Fort Hunt is close to culture, services and employment. Because it’s on the northern end of the Mount Vernon District, Fort Hunt is closer to Alexandria, Arlington and Washington DC. The neighborhood is not only closer geographically to the heart of the city, but the traffic patterns, established long before the rise of Northern Virginia’s suburbia, favor Fort Hunt and are relatively free from traffic and congestion. This means that commutes are shorter by miles, but more importantly, much shorter in terms of time spent traveling. Featured neighborhoods in Fort Hunt:
