A community within Mount Vernon’s Woodlawn neighborhood, Woodlawn Terrace provides single-family, detached homes that tend to be built in the Cape Cod style, which were originally shingle-sided one-story cottages. However, since being built in the 1960s, most of these homes have undergone significant improvements, including renovations and additions. In fact, many have also received updated kitchens and bathrooms.
Location is a big perk for Woodlawn Terrace residents, who have easy access to the metro, shopping and more. Many parks also occupy the area, including Woodlawn Park, Huntley Meadows Park and Muddy Hole Farm Park. Woodlawn Mews features colonial-style homes in Mount Vernon district
Within the Mount Vernon district in Southern Fairfax County’s Woodlawn neighborhood, Woodlawn Mews offers colonial-style townhomes built primarily in the mid-1980s.
Colonial-style homes tend to be rectangular and symmetrical with second-floor bedrooms and double-hung windows. This is one of the most popular architectural styles in the Northern Virginia region.
Woodlawn Mews residents also enjoy the community’s proximity to Engleside, Huntley Meadows Park, Route 1, Mount Vernon Country Club and Grist Mill Park. It’s also near Fort Belvoir and a newly built community hospital. Plus, for the commuters, it’s only about 8 miles from Huntington Metro Station.
Woodlawn has history and housing options
Named for old Woodlawn Plantation, the Woodlawn neighborhood is located near Fort Belvoir and the Mount Vernon district. The plantation, a 126-acre estate, belonged to George Washington’s Mount Vernon before having a number of owners. Eventually, it became the first historic site owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, according to Woodlawn’s website.
Woodlawn’s three communities — Olde Mill, Woodlawn Mews and Woodlawn Terrace — contain condominiums, townhouses and single-family homes, most of which were built in the 1970s.
In addition to a variety of housing options, Woodlawn is an ideal neighborhood because of its proximity to Cooper Square, Woodlawn Park, Engleside and Richmond Highway.
