Living In Mount Vernon, Fairfax County
With a population close to 30,000 Mount Vernon is situated on the banks of the Potomac River and is only 12 miles from the nation’s capital Washington D.C. Mount Vernon has a wide selection of homes to choose from including single-family residences, condominiums and townhouses. There is something to suit nearly every budget.
Mount Vernon is rich in history, being home to George Washington’s Estate and Gardens. The area offers so much more though with umpteen green areas and parks, you’ll find lots of them if you take a spin down the pretty George Washington Parkway. There is also the Mount Vernon Trail, which is great for cycling, jogging and rollerblading. For something a little different you could always wander around the historic streets of Old Town Alexandria. For those into sport there are several noteworthy golf courses within the Mount Vernon area.
The education of Mount Vernon‘s younger residences is taken care of by the well respected Fairfax County Public School System. There is also a large section of Universities to choose from including Virginia’s best public one in George Mason University. Other third level options include Howard University, Northern Virginia Community College, Marymount University, Georgetown University and George Washington University.
Mount Vernon has a healthy mix of successful businesses and is home to the Fort Belvoir Army base. The base will soon be expanding, as a result of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) procedure, to include 59 agencies from the Department of Defense that are currently located in Washington.
There are good transport options around Mount Vernon which affords its residents the chance to commute to the major business hubs in the area. The Washington Metro and an interconnecting freeway system serve the community well. There are also 3 airports within easy reach, Washington Dulles International Airport and Reagan Washington National Airport are the closest with Baltimore-Washington International a little further away.
All told Mount Vernon is just a wonderful place to live.
